Gino Sturla is a civil hydraulic engineer, holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Law, and a PhD in Economics from the University of Chile. He served as an associate researcher at the same university and subsequently completed a postdoctoral fellowship, later holding an academic position at the University of Florence. He has participated in research projects in Chile and Italy aimed at understanding and modeling the interactions between water-related ecosystems and the socioeconomic system, with the objective of informing and supporting socio-environmental policy design. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, with a joint appointment between College UC and the Department of Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering (DIHA). His current work focuses on the biophysical quantification, economic valuation, and governance of natural water capital, adopting an interdisciplinary approach that integrates hydrology, regional and environmental economics, and institutional analysis.
