I am a PhD Candidate in Legal Theory at Charles University and Goethe University (joint PhD) and work as a Project Associate at the Center for Critical Computational Studies at Goethe University.
I study how courts apply the law through the perspective of legal theory (esp. legal argumentation), empirical legal studies and AI&Law.
My Sylff project CorAL (Correct Application of Law) focuses on the boundary between correct and incorrect judicial decisions. The project pursues three goals: to develop a theoretical framework for incorrect legal assessment; to empirically determine why higher courts most frequently overturn lower court decisions; and to create a new course on law application for the Czech legal curriculum. CorAL will elucidate the controversial concept of ‘correctness’ in law by clarifying selected reasons for incorrect legal assessment. In doing so, the project aims to contribute to more predictable and transparent judicial practices.
