Anton Ponomarenko is a 2024 Sylff Fellow and international security researcher specializing in the evolving Russia–China–North Korea alignment and its implications for the Indo-Pacific and Euro Atlantic security architecture. He holds an M.A. in Regional Studies–East Asia (MARSEA) from Columbia University, where he conducted research under Professor Andrew J. Nathan, and a B.A. in Economics from Fudan University. Published by The Stimson Center’s 38 North, War on the Rocks, and The Diplomat, his research explores strategic competition, arms transfers, and technological cooperation among authoritarian states, incorporating OSINT and primary-language sources. Professionally, Anton has worked with the United Nations and The Korea Society, contributing to policy discussions on conflict prevention, emerging military technologies, and great-power rivalries. He is fluent in English, Russian, and Ukrainian, and has professional proficiency in Mandarin Chinese.

Academic Achievements, Social Engagement Initiatives
Mr. Anton Ponomarenko was awarded the 2023 Davis Fellowship at Columbia University’s Weatherhead East Asian Institute and the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) for his research on China’s strategic behavior and the China–Russia alignment amidst the war in Ukraine. In 2025, he received the Award for Outstanding Contribution to International Security Research at the Asian Leadership Conference in Seoul for his work on Russia–DPRK technological and military cooperation.
Through his publications and policy engagement, Anton seeks to strengthen dialogue on global and Indo-Pacific security by bridging academic research with practical policymaking. He remains committed to advancing informed, cooperative approaches to counter emerging threats posed by new alliances, asymmetric warfare, and the growing strategic coordination between Moscow, Pyongyang, and Beijing.
