Erchen completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in European Art History and East
Asian Art History at the Ruprecht Karl University of Heidelberg in Germany. After completing her master's degree, she received a research fellowship awarded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. The fellowship funded her research on Graffiti and artworks of Swiss contemporary artist Harald Naegeli at the Schnütgen Museum in Cologne. In addition to museum, she also has abundant work experience in the art market, including gallery and auction trade.
One of her research areas in European art history focuses on avant-garde art, particularly in German-speaking countries and in Central and Eastern Europe in the 20th century. Her doctoral dissertation investigates the action and Performance art from the non-conform art scene in the GDR from 1970 to 1990.
