Academic achievement, social engagement initiatives:
Hubert Zieba is a PhD candidate in the Institute of Audio Visual Arts at the Jagielonian University in Krakow. The main aims of his doctoral research are to identify past and present trends of representations of HIV/AIDS in the visual culture and explore the non-uniformity of ways of responding to the problem.
He received his Master's degree in Gender, Sexuality and Culture from the University of Manchester in 2010. Since 2014 he has been conducting seminars on the history of culture and the history of new wave cinema, and giving guest lectures on the cultural representations of HIV and AIDS. He also studied in London and - thanks to a grant from the Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund - in New York.
He has always been an active member of both local and international communities. In 2005 he represented his country at the International Session of the European Youth Parliament. Four years later, he established a local branch of KPH (Campaign Against Homophobia), a non-governmental organization dedicated to represent LGBTQ communities in Poland.
He has been working as a teacher of English for the last four years. In the meantime, he has been coordinating several student exchange programmes involving schools from Poland, the Netherlands, and India.
