I am Mervyn Coetzee. I grew up in Bonteheuwel, South Africa during Apartheid.

I hold a MA from the University of the Western Cape (UWC), and have worked at UWC, the University of Cape Town (UCT) and The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) as a tutor, writing consultant, researcher and lecturer.

I am currently doing a PhD (Education) at UWC. My research is based upon Egalitarian thinking: the drive to address inequalities, social injustices, and to work towards a society that fosters equal rights, opportunities and access for all South African citizens regardless of ethnicity, physical appearance, socio-economic status, gender, physical and/or mental ability, educational qualifications and the like.

At present, I am a part-time lecturer in the Foundation Phase Education Programme at UWC.
