Previously worked as a Research Associate at the Institute for Human Development, New Delhi (2013-2016).

Taniya Chakrabarty, is a PhD candidate at the CSSS, JNU, New Delhi. She has previously completed M.Phil. in Sociology from CSSS, JNU, New Delhi (2016-2018); MA in Globalisation and Labour from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai (2011-2013); BA in Political Science from Loreto College, Calcutta University. She has also worked as a Research Associate at the Institute for Human Development, New Delhi (2013-2016). Her research interests include elite sociology, sociology of education, sociology of business, merit, labour and inequality. At present, her dissertation attempts to understand whether or not there exists a social story behind an otherwise mechanically understood process of hiring in the corporate sector. Through a focus on campus placements, this study attempts to explore the process of merit construction and elite reproduction in elite educational institutions and corporate economy and to probe if and how identities shape the career path of individuals seeking high status professional jobs in the corporate economy.
