Vincenzo D’Amico is a sociologist, lawyer, and PhD candidate in Migration Studies at the University of Granada, where he is conducting his doctoral research under an international cotutelle agreement with the University of Palermo. His research examines the political participation of first- and second-generation migrants in Sicily through a qualitative and sociological approach. Alongside his academic work, he coordinates the legal team of the Reception and Integration System (SAI) of the Municipality of Palermo, providing legal support to unaccompanied foreign minors and young adults. He is President of Consultorio dei Diritti MIF (Minors, Migrants and Families) and collaborates with fio.PSD on homelessness, welfare, and social inclusion. His work combines academic research, legal practice, and civic engagement, with particular attention to the development of inclusive policies and services.

Vincenzo D’Amico’s academic and professional work bridges migration studies, social welfare, law, and social inclusion. He coordinates the legal team of the Reception and Integration System (SAI) of the Municipality of Palermo, supporting approximately 400 unaccompanied foreign minors and young adults each year. He is President of Consultorio dei Diritti MIF (Minors, Migrants and Families) and collaborates with fio.PSD, the Italian Federation of Organisations Working with Homeless People, on research, policy development, and initiatives addressing homelessness and social exclusion. His activities aim to translate scientific knowledge into inclusive public policies, professional practices, and community-based interventions.
Brief Summary of Support Program Activities
With the support of the 2026 Sylff Research Grant, Vincenzo D’Amico will undertake a three-month research stay at the University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney), Australia. The project will strengthen the comparative dimension of his doctoral research on migrant political participation by examining the experiences of second- and third-generation migrant communities in the Australian context. Activities will include qualitative fieldwork, interviews, academic exchanges, seminars, and engagement with researchers and organisations working on migration, citizenship, multiculturalism, and social inclusion. The findings will contribute to his doctoral dissertation and support the transfer of comparative evidence into public policies and professional practices in Italy.
