The research to be carried out at UCL will be on project learning capabilities, which means how project teams search for and identify the critical knowledge required to undertake large infrastructure projects that are tailored to internal and external requirements. The purpose is to develop a learning capability model at the project level, extending the traditional organizational learning boundaries to temporary organizations. Based on an earlier theoretical study and empirical investigation in the Netherlands, the conceptual project learning capabilities will be further discussed with Professor Andrew Davies and Dr. Eleni Papadonikolaki in the School of Construction and Project Management, The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment, UCL. The research will be based on two major sources: interviews and case study. Interviews will be conducted with British experts on construction and project management at UCL and other universities. Crossrail, the new railway under development for London and the south-east in the UK will be investigated as a case. The documents include formal documentation on the construction projects. The expected outcome will be a research paper on the project learning capability model, which is planned to be submitted to International Journal of Project Management or other leading Project Management journals. A presentation on this topic will also be given at UCL. I also intend to interact with MPhil/PhD students at UCL.
