Yi is a social worker and fifth-year PhD candidate at Columbia University School of Social Work. Her research focuses on the interconnected areas of stigma, mental health, and sexual health among minoritized populations globally. Yi's work draws on diverse qualitative methodologies, with an emphasis on ethnographic approaches to understanding health needs in marginalized communities. She is particularly passionate about employing arts-and community-based participatory approaches to engage minoritized children and young people in the co-creation of culturally grounded interventions that address intersectional stigma and health disparities. Yi’s research is informed by her cultural background and her practice experience working with racially and ethnically minoritized children and communities both in the US and in China. She holds an MSW from the University of Michigan.
