Nicholas Sy’s recent publications include “Did Municipal Elites Intermarry? A Case Study of Marriage Practices among the Political Elites of San Pablo, Laguna, 1853–1854” published in the internationally refereed journal Philippine Studies: Historical and Ethnographic Viewpoints (2019) and “Horacio de la Costa, Foreign Missionaries, and the Quest for Filipinization: The Church in the Age of Decolonization,” co-authored with Filomeno V. Aguilar Jr. (who is the primary author) and published in the same journal. His research interests include the early modern Spanish empire, demographic history, the history of conversion, political elites, historical biography, and digital humanities. <ncsy1@up.edu.ph>

Studied the history of the family as a social institution via a quantitative case study on the marriage practices of municipal-level political elites during the nineteenth century.
