Beverley M. Thaver *

Sociology of Higher Education, Humanities

Professor in Higher Education Studies, holds a BA degree from the University of Cape Town,   a MA from the University of York (UK)  and a PhD in Education from the University of the Western Cape. She is a former Deputy Dean of Postgraduate Studies and Research, in the Faculty of Education, UWC. Her research focus and publications are on the democratic transformation  dynamic of higher education institutions at both the institutional and systems' levels, with a special interest in the transformation of the academic profession and the phenomenon of institutional culture of universities.  She held a  National Research Foundation rating as a social scientist and represented Fulbright at the World Science forum in Brazil in 2014. She is a Ministerial appointee to the Council on Higher Education, serving a second four-year term.  She is also Chairperson of the National Evaluation and Monitoring committee at the Council on Higher Education.
