Academic achievements, social engagement initiatives:
Eitan is a joint PhD student in Public Policy and Political Science at the University of Michigan. His dissertation project studies the effects of local civil society on participatory budgeting in Indonesian villages. Eitan is also the lead researcher for a field experiment on public works procurement and distribution in the Philippines. He is a research scholar at the the International Policy Center at the University of Michigan and a Non-Resident Fellow at the Ateneo Policy Center at Ateneo de Manila University. Eitan received an MA in Law and Diplomacy from Tufts University and a BS in Foreign Service from Georgetown University.

Brief summary of support program activities:
The Sylff Research Abroad award will support Eitan's field research in Indonesia for his dissertation project, "Elite-Driven Development? Accountability in Village Budgeting in Indonesia." Eitan will conduct surveys and interviews to measure budgetary preferences and the characteristics of civil society in Indonesian villages. He will perform qualitative and statistical analysis to understand the relationship between civil society and budgetary preference alignment at various stages of the participatory budgeting process.
